Herrensauna has become one of the most talked-about names in Berlin’s underground music scene. Founded in 2016 by DJs Cem Dukkha (also known as CEM) and Nicolas Maxim Endlicher (MCMLXXXV), this queer techno collective is known for its intense, immersive events and boundary-pushing lineups. Over the years, Herrensauna has grown from a Berlin-based party series into a global symbol of freedom, identity, and radical expression in electronic music.
A New Era of Queer Techno
Herrensauna began as a small underground party held in secret locations around Berlin. It quickly built a reputation for combining high-energy techno, experimental visuals, and a bold, inclusive atmosphere. The goal was simple: to create a space where people could be fully themselves while dancing to innovative, forward-thinking music.
The collective’s events became known for their raw aesthetic, open-minded crowd, and high-intensity music that spans techno, electro, breakbeat, and beyond. Herrensauna isn’t just about sound—it’s about building a community that breaks boundaries and challenges norms.
Meet the Founders: CEM and MCMLXXXV

Cem Dukkha, better known as CEM, originally comes from Vienna and has a background in punk and experimental music. His transition into electronic music brought with it a DIY mindset and a commitment to underground culture. CEM has become a key figure in modern queer techno, with an ear for cutting-edge sound and a talent for building communities through music.
Nicolas Maxim Endlicher, performing as MCMLXXXV, also hails from Vienna. As co-founder and curator, he helped shape Herrensauna’s unique artistic identity, blending club culture with visual art and performance. His vision has helped establish the brand as a leader in Berlin’s creative scene.
Global Growth and International Events
Although Herrensauna began in Berlin, its influence has extended far beyond the city. The collective has hosted international parties in cities like New York, Paris, and London. These events bring the same intensity and spirit as their Berlin editions, introducing new audiences to their progressive, genre-blending style.
One standout event was Herrensauna’s performance during Pridefest 2024 at RSO.Berlin. The multi-day event featured sets from core members and special guests, cementing Herrensauna’s reputation for top-tier programming and emotional, high-impact performances.
A Record Label With a Purpose
In 2020, Herrensauna launched its own record label, giving artists a platform to share the collective’s signature sound. The label has released projects from rising talents like Salome, Tomás Urquieta, and DJ TOOL, with each release reflecting the raw and bold energy of the party series.
This move into recorded music has allowed Herrensauna to extend its influence beyond the dancefloor, building a lasting legacy within underground electronic music.
Committed to Community and Innovation
Herrensauna’s impact isn’t just about music—it’s about creating space. By championing LGBTQ+ expression, artistic experimentation, and fearless individuality, Herrensauna has become a cultural movement. Its founders remain committed to curating events that are not only sonically thrilling but socially meaningful.
Whether in a Berlin warehouse or an international club, Herrensauna continues to redefine what modern techno culture can be.
