One of New York’s most talked about nightlife venues is preparing for a dramatic new chapter. The Pacha brand is set to take over Brooklyn Mirage following a bankruptcy sale, signaling a potential revival after months of legal turmoil, financial collapse, and safety concerns left the venue shuttered.

According to industry reports, the transformation would see the East Williamsburg complex reborn as Pacha New York, placing one of Ibiza’s most iconic club brands at the center of the city’s electronic music landscape.

Brooklyn Mirage Bankruptcy Sale Clears Path for Pacha Takeover

The deal was finalized in the early hours of New Year’s Day, following Axar Capital Management’s acquisition of Avant Gardner’s assets. Avant Gardner, the operator of Brooklyn Mirage and the Electric Zoo festival, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August with reported debts totaling $155.3 million.

A federal bankruptcy judge recently approved the sale of the venue to Axar, its primary lender, for $110 million. That ruling effectively closed the chapter on one of New York’s most prominent EDM destinations and opened the door for new ownership.

Under the agreement, FIVE Holdings, the Dubai based conglomerate behind the global Pacha nightclub franchise, has now secured the property. The move positions the Pacha brand to re enter the New York nightlife market on a major scale.

A Turbulent Collapse for a Landmark Venue

The downfall of Brooklyn Mirage was swift and highly visible. Once celebrated for its massive LED walls and large scale productions, the 80,000 square foot complex struggled following an ambitious $30 million renovation.

Operational issues soon mounted. Permit disputes and failed safety inspections forced prolonged closures, while mounting unpaid bills strained relationships with artists, staff, and fans. The situation escalated to leadership changes, with CEO Josh Wyatt removed and nightlife veteran Gary Richards, also known as Destructo, brought in to stabilize operations.

Despite these efforts, the venue never reopened. Avant Gardner ultimately canceled its entire season of shows, leaving ticket holders seeking refunds and the future of the space in doubt.

While the Pacha takeover has sparked excitement among some fans, it has also raised serious concerns within the electronic music community. Sources close to the deal have described the acquisition as a warning sign for independent nightlife ecosystems.

Critics argue that a well funded global brand could reshape the New York market by offering inflated talent fees, making it harder for local promoters to compete. This concern is amplified by unresolved issues surrounding canceled Mirage events and Electric Zoo refunds.

The debate highlights growing tensions around institutional capital entering nightlife and electronic music, a scene traditionally built on independent operators and grassroots culture.

Demolition Plans and an Uncertain Future

Complicating the revival narrative, Avant Gardner reportedly filed for a demolition permit for the existing structure. This suggests the Brooklyn Mirage as fans once knew it may not return in its original form.

As of now, neither FIVE Holdings nor Avant Gardner has publicly announced a reopening timeline or detailed plans for Pacha New York. It remains unclear whether the venue will be rebuilt entirely, reconfigured, or relaunched under a new design concept aligned with the Pacha brand.

Pacha’s Complicated History in New York

This is not Pacha’s first attempt to conquer New York nightlife. In 2005, the brand opened a 30,000 square foot mega club in Manhattan, backed by significant investment and high expectations. Despite early success, the venue closed in 2016, citing rising operational costs and fierce competition.

Now, with FIVE Holdings’ global expansion strategy and deep financial backing, Pacha appears ready to try again, this time in Brooklyn’s electronic music heartland.

The Pacha brand takeover of Brooklyn Mirage represents both opportunity and risk. On one hand, it could revive a dormant space and restore large scale electronic music events to the area.
