For Swedish electronic music producer SAMAKO, music isn’t just a universal language—it’s a tool for decoding secrets. With his latest track, “Code (2024 Remastered Version),” he has masterfully transformed cryptic military Morse code into a pulse-pounding synthwave anthem, blending the enigmatic sounds of shortwave radio with the raw energy of the dancefloor.
The Stockholm-based artist drew inspiration from military communication systems, specifically French shortwave radio signals that were transmitted in Morse code. Using WebSDR technology, SAMAKO intercepted and recorded these signals, which ranged from buzzers to encrypted messages. “The shortwave signals had a steady rhythm,” he explains. “Since they were clean and consistent, they translated perfectly into MIDI when processed in Ableton.”
From these mysterious foundations, SAMAKO sculpted a soundscape that captures the eerie resonance of the original transmissions. The track features driving arpeggios and brooding synths, preserving the haunting qualities of the Morse code while injecting a powerful club-ready energy.
The result is “Code,” a track that feels both retro and futuristic, steeped in the intrigue of espionage yet firmly grounded on the modern dancefloor. It’s a testament to SAMAKO’s innovative approach to production, turning top-secret signals into a universal groove that speaks to the body and the imagination alike.
“Code (2024 Remastered Version)” is available now, offering listeners a chance to decode and dance to SAMAKO’s sonic encryption.
