Ana Pak and Lex Laurence
In a world increasingly saturated by digital noise, it’s rare to find a track that cuts through with emotional clarity. Clandestine, the debut release by rising electronic artists Ana Pak and Lex Laurence, does just that—offering a soulful, cross-cultural journey rooted in the rawness of secret love.
We caught up with the duo to explore their background, creative process, and the story behind a track that already feels timeless.
A Crossroads of Culture and Sound
Ana Pak, a Far East-born DJ and producer now based in Spain, has been immersed in electronic music since her teenage years. A resident at the renowned Papagayo club in the Canary Islands, she brings Afro House and Indie Dance to life with a deep emotional sensitivity. “I love music that tells a story, that connects with people’s hearts,” she says.
Lex Laurence, on the other hand, brings a unique blend of backgrounds—half English, half Russian, and raised in Tenerife, where European, Latin, African, and Arabic influences collide. “My sound reflects humanity’s journey—deserts, jungles, cultures—blended through deep, organic house,” he explains.
The Moment Everything Changed
For Ana, the turning point came at 19. “I saw Solomun live in Moscow, and something just clicked. That night, I knew I had to pursue this.” For Lex, the spark was the global festival scene. “Watching DJs shift the energy of thousands of people… it felt like magic. I wanted to be a part of that power.”
Their paths eventually crossed—creatively and personally—and together, they’ve forged something fresh.
The Birth of ‘Clandestine’
Clandestine was born from a failed attempt. Lex had been working on a track with French vocals, but it didn’t quite land. Ana picked up the fragment and felt an instant connection. “I tried it over a few of my own ideas,” she recalls, “but nothing worked—until this one. Suddenly it just flowed.”
When Ana got stuck mid-way, Lex returned to the studio, and in a single session, everything aligned. “The energy, the emotion—it was like the track had been waiting for us to finish it together,” Lex says.
At its core, Clandestine explores the beauty and pain of hidden love—those emotions we don’t often speak of, yet carry with us. French female vocals represent one half of the love story, while African male vocals embody the other. They move independently through the song, eventually colliding in a heartfelt crescendo. It’s more than a dance track—it’s a cinematic experience.
Why It Matters
Beyond its sound, Clandestine carries personal weight. “This is our first official release,” Ana shares. “We’ve both worked on countless ideas, but this is the first one that felt right enough to release. It marks the true beginning of our artistic journey.”
What makes the release even more meaningful is the collaboration with Cafe De Anatolia, a globally respected label known for its ethno-electronic signature. “We’ve played their music for years,” Lex says. “To now be part of their catalogue feels like a full-circle moment.”
Advice for the Underground Dreamers
While they’re still at the beginning of their journey, Ana and Lex offer grounded advice: “Don’t overthink your sound,” Ana says. “Stay true to your emotions—they’re your compass.” Lex adds, “Collaboration has pushed us forward. It opens new doors you can’t always unlock alone.”
What’s Next?
The duo is already working on follow-ups to Clandestine, exploring deeper and broader emotional palettes. “Expect the unexpected,” Ana smiles. “Our sound evolves with us. But no matter where we go, the soul will always be there.”
