Afterlife Festival Cancels Inaugural Mexico City Event Due to Licensing Issues

The highly anticipated debut of the Afterlife Festival in Mexico City has been officially canceled. The festival, originally scheduled for May 9th and 10th, 2025, at Hipódromo De Las Américas, will no longer take place due to unforeseen technical and licensing issues.

Official Statement and Refunds

The news comes just over a month after the festival’s initial announcement, leaving electronic music fans in Mexico disappointed. In an official statement shared on social media, Afterlife’s organizers explained that despite exploring all possible solutions, they were unable to proceed with the event as planned.

“We explored every possible solution, but the situation prevents us from delivering the experience you deserve.”

To ease the disappointment, Afterlife and Zamna, one of the festival’s partners, assured ticket holders that full refunds, including service fees, would be automatically processed and returned to the original payment method.

No Plans for a Rescheduled Date

Unlike some festival cancellations that come with a rescheduled date, Afterlife’s statement made no mention of a future Mexico City edition. Given their clear messaging, it seems unlikely that the event will be relocated or postponed in the near term.

What’s Next?

While fans in Mexico City may have to wait for another opportunity, Afterlife’s founders, Anyma and MRAK, are still scheduled to perform in Barcelona in June 2025 as part of the festival’s ongoing tour.

The Impact on Mexico’s Electronic Music Scene

The cancellation of Afterlife Festival marks a significant setback for Mexico’s electronic music scene, which has grown substantially in recent years. Events like Zamna Tulum, EDC Mexico, and BPM Festival have helped solidify the country as a key destination for dance music. This cancellation, however, underscores the challenges that come with organizing large-scale events in complex regulatory environments.

Despite the setback, Afterlife remains one of the most sought-after festival experiences worldwide, known for its immersive audiovisual productions and world-class melodic techno performances. Hopefully, Mexico City fans will get another chance to experience it in the future.
