David Devanagari
For Spanish composer and producer David Devanagari, music has always been more than sound — it is the driving force of his life. Now based in Ibiza, David’s path to electronic music was shaped by years of travel across Latin America, Asia, and Europe. Each destination left a mark on his creative vision, exposing him to new cultures, instruments, and rhythms that continue to echo throughout his productions.
Blending traditional instruments like the Indian sitar and the handpan with electronic rhythms, David crafts immersive journeys that are at once personal and universal. His music is deeply emotional, often leaning toward a sense of melancholy — that fascinating space where sadness and joy meet. This unique ability to weave cultural sounds with contemporary electronic elements sets him apart as a storyteller through sound.
His latest release, “Bósforo”, is a vibrant tribute to the city of Istanbul. Inspired by days spent wandering its bazaars, markets, and historic streets, David sought to capture the essence of a city that bridges Europe and Asia, ancient and modern. “I wanted to reflect how Istanbul maintains a very clear identity while opening itself to the world,” he explains. The result is a track that balances playful energy with rich textures: sampled traditional instruments alongside psychedelic synths, all tied together in a dynamic rhythm that invites listeners to dance.
For David, Bósforo also represents an evolution in his sound. While earlier works, such as his Café de Anatolia release Ixchel, leaned on acoustic instruments for their organic intimacy, Bósforo embraces a bolder electronic edge. “I love how the synthesizer section sounds live,” he says, “especially when the delays get wild. It’s a track I truly enjoy performing.”
Collaboration with labels plays a vital role in his creative journey, and David speaks warmly about his partnership with Café de Anatolia. “They go far beyond simple promotion,” he notes. “It feels like a friendship — a relationship built on trust and shared energy. Having that kind of support gives me the courage to experiment and keep growing.”
Looking ahead, David is preparing to redefine his live shows with new collaborations and fresh material. Alongside Bósforo, he has two independent releases on the horizon, projects he is especially proud of for allowing him to manage the entire creative cycle from conception to performance to final release.
At its core, David’s music is about connection — bridging cultures, emotions, and experiences through sound. With Bósforo, he offers listeners not only a track to enjoy but also a piece of Istanbul’s soul, carried across borders and translated into music without limits.
